Why I now hate Seattle

For the past two weeks its been 48 degrees and raining in Seattle. Call me crazy but I thought it was summer. Everyone has dark circles under their eyes and are sort of walking around in a deppressed daze. Last weekend I was in the mall and all I could do was laugh maniacally when I saw the stores filled with board shorts and brightly colored tank tops. I was wearing a sweater. A SWEATER. IN JUNE. I NEED SUMMER! (T-minus three weeks until I get on a plane and leave this place forever)

SPRING!

This morning when I woke up, the sun was shining. Its hard to explain to those who live in normal places. But, I haven't felt this amazing feeling of sheer unfettered joy since I lived in Norway. You know, that feeling on that first morning of sun after six straight months of, quite literally, pure darkness. Its the one morning, when you go outside to the catch the bus like any other morning - and, what? What is that bright spot of glorious color reaching over the horizon? And what is that beautiful sound? Birds? It makes you want to weep.

Today, its like that in Seattle. More beautiful than you could possibly imagine. It reminds of why I love the Northwest. Tall evergreens reaching up into a completely pure blue sky, birds chirping, a perfect 65 degrees. Soft, cool, green grass and sparkling blue water - and what is that? Could that really be...blossoms!!

I have every window in the house open, my favorite song playing (um, thank you Pandora for magically knowing my favorite song ever) - and I have never been happier. I love the SUN!!!

Pike Place Market

CrabI think my favorite thing about Seattle is Pike Place Market. I could spend every Saturday there and be happy (especially if I have my camera!). We decided to hang out there this weekend, which was exciting since we the last time we went was back in October (these pictures are from both visits).

There was this cool band playing - The Tallboys. They are a bluegrass band and were extremely good.

I could spend all day drooling over the gorgeous produce there!
Veggies
Shrooms
Habanero
Berrylicious
If it only it were easier to go to - I would but almost all of my groceries there (especially as you can't find half that stuff in the horrible grocery stores).

DahliaAnd in the Autumn - the flowers are amazing (these pictures are from October). More pretty cabbage

This trip to the market we discovered some cool shops on the lower levels that we had never explored before, including a cool old-timey magic shop and a very overpriced thrift store. And there is always lots of good people watching.

Get the Clam StripsWe ate at a Lowells - a very old restaurant with a gorgeous view of Pugent Sound. Cory had steamed clams and was horrified at the discovery that these come in the shell (I tried to warn him!).

I always say it, but I need to go more. We decided we definitely need to go down there and pick up some stuff for an amazing meal (crawfish boil in the spring?).
